    • For BioBeyond, lessons and projects from the grade sync total 8,000, including the 556 points from the Blue Planet Report (manually graded in Smart Sparrow, see below). IMPORTANT: Smart Sparrow sends a percentage to the LMS (a number between 0 and 1) with grade sync so you can weight the grading according to your syllabus
  • You can download a snapshot of the student grades to a spreadsheet at any time during the semester by clicking DOWNLOAD GRADES.

View Student Responses with Analytics

To check student responses to specific questions in the lessons:

  1. Click on the Lessons tab and then navigate to the lesson page by clicking on the name of the lesson you want to review. Then click Analytics top left. Select Student Results from the Chose a Filter drop-down and then select your section from the Chose a Class drop-down next to it.

View Student Results with Analytics

You can change the view of the analytics by selecting Student Results or Question Explorer from the dropdown menu in the top left of the Analytics page.

The Student Results section of Lesson Analytics shows the total results for each student’s attempt on the Lesson.

The Lesson results table shows an overview of each student’s attempt on the Lesson. If you’ve allowed for multiple Lesson attempts you’ll probably see more than one record per student. The search field can be used to filter the table by student names or email fields.

Table Columns

Resetting student progress

With this table you can reset a student’s progress on the Lesson. This may be needed on rare cases where the Lesson was changed whilst the student was part-way through the Lesson.

To reset a student’s progress, select the check box of the student whose progress you’d like to reset, then click Reset Progress

Manual Grading

Manual Grading enables instructors and teaching assistants to review learner responses for a component, and assign points based on manual assessment. This is useful for components with subjective responses, which cannot be accurately graded without instructor input.

In the Report: Grading student responses

To manually grade learner responses in a lesson, you must access Reports.

  1. Go to aelp.smartsparrow.com.
  2. Go to the Classes tab in the navigation bar.
  3. Find and select the relevant class.
  4. If you your lesson that requires scoring is not yet associated with a class, please read “Deploying a Lesson” here in order to add your lesson to a class.
  5. In the class navigation bar, click Reports to find and access the Manual Grades report.

When you open the Manual Grades report, you will see all the components you marked for manual grading. Manually graded responses are organized by lesson, named after the screen the component appears on, in sequential order. If there are two manually graded components on one screen, they will appear as “Screen Name (Component Title)”.

The report will tell you how many learners have submitted responses for each component, and how many of those are still ungraded. To grade responses, click “Grade” on the right-hand side.

You may see these abbreviations in the Lesson Report:

  • TBG = To Be Graded. You will see this in a Lesson Report for a learner if they completed the entire lesson, but their responses in the Manual Grades report have yet to be scored.
  • TBD = To Be Done. You will see this in a Lesson Report if the learner has not yet completed the entire lesson.

The manual grades report will will always show the most recent learner response. That means earlier responses from the same learner will be overwritten. If you have already graded an earlier response from a learner, you will need to re-grade their new response.
